SCAN’s vision is to create a healthy, prosperous future for today’s community.
Clean Air. Clean Water. Good Jobs. Clean Government.
The residents of Susquehanna County have joined together in solidarity to oppose the pollution of our beautiful Endless Mountains of North East Pennsylvania.
In the spring of 2016 there was a rumor in Susquehanna County Pennsylvania about an incinerator coming to our area. As it turned out, it was true. An investor group, from King of Prussia, had decided that Susquehanna County looked like a pretty good place to build a hazardous waste incinerator.
There hadn’t been a hazardous waste incinerator built in the US for more than twenty years for the simple reason there was no need for one.
We got to work right away and learned more, formed groups and eventually founded the Susquehanna Clean Air Network, also known as SCAN, held public meetings, circulated petitions, pressured elected officials and the DEP and got thousands of our neighbors involved against this dangerous business. By November we had driven the hazardous waste incinerator scheme out of existence.
